Abstract

1322394 Photoconductive recording element AGFA-GEVAERT 19 April 1971 [1 April 1970] 15473/70 Heading H1K [Also in Division C2] A photoconductive recording element comprises a benzidine of formula wherein n is 1 or 2, R is a monovalent optionally substituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group when n is 1 or when n is 2, R is a carbonyl group or other bivalent group, R 1 is H, or an optionally substituted alkyl group, R 2 is H, or an optionally substituted alkyl group or an aromatic or heterocyclic acyl group or R 1 + R 2 together represent the atoms necessary to close a non-aromatic ring. In the specific embodiments a support of polyethylene terephthalate coated with gelatine and a conductive polymer or laminated aluminium/paper is coated with an organic solvent solution of copoly vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate/maleic anhydride and a benzidine derivative wherein R<SP>1</SP>=H, R=CH 3 , CH 2 CO phenyl or phenyl and R 2 = H, benzoyl, or phenyl COCH 2 CO. Many other suitable benzidine derivatives and binders are specified. It is possible to add an inorganic photoconductor to render the photoconductive layer opaque.
