Abstract

1,214,364. Photoconductive composition. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 25 July, 1968 [31 July, 1967], No. 35564/68. Heading H1K. [Also in Division C3] A photoconductive composition comprises a photoconductor and a binder wherein the binder comprises a polymer having nuclear substituted vinyl haloaryloate units. Preferably the binder is a copolymer containing both wherein X is a halosubstituted aryl group and Y is an alkyl group having 1-8 C atoms. For the vinyl haloaryloate unit the substituent on the vinyl group may be chloro-, fluoro-, bromo- or iodo-benzoate, or bromonaphthoate but 2,4-dichlorobenzoate is also mentioned. The second monomer for the copolymer may be vinyl acetate. The photo-conductors exemplified are 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- benzylidine - bis(N,N - diethyl - mtoluidine); bis 4 - (diethylamino) - 1,1,1, - triphenylethane; bis 4 - (diethylamino) tetraphenyl methane and 4, 4<SP>1 </SP>- bis(diphenylamino)- chalcone but may others are listed. Sensitizers for the photoconductor are listed but those exemplified are 2,4 - di(4 - ethoxyphenyl) - 6 - (4- n - amyloxystyryl)pyrylium fluoroborate and 6 - chloro - 1<SP>1</SP> - methyl - 1,2<SP>1</SP>,3<SP>1</SP>, - triphenylimidazo[4,5,b] - quinoxalino - 31 - indolcarbocyanine - p - toluenesulphonate. The composition may be coated on a plate or foil of Al, Zn, Cu, brass, N: or galvanized iron, paper, paper- Al laminate or a support coated with a conductive layer of a carboxyester lactone. Single or multiple layers of the composition may be built up and the layers may be separated or covered by insulating layers.
