Abstract

1322325 Developer for pre-sensitized plates JOHNSONS OF HENDON Ltd 24 June 1970 [27 June 1969 15 May 1970] 32706/69 and 30602/70 Divided out of 23723/70 - Co-Pending Heading G2C A single-phase aqueous developer when used in developing figmented pre-sensitized printing plates containing illustrated acid esters of epoxy resins comprises at least one water miscible organic solvent for the unhardened resin, a halide of Ca and/or Zn and water such that the ratio by weight of halide to water is at least 1À3À57. The developer may also contain an acid such as phosphoric or lactic acid and the specified solvents are diethylene glyeol monobutyl ether and methyl glycol acetate. The pre-sensitized plate may comprise a support either coated with a layer of epoxy resin and dispersed figment or coated with an epoxy resin layer and over-coated with a pigment dispersed in a hydrophilic colloid which colloid may be removed by washing so that the figment is absorbed by the epoxy resin layer before exposure. A small amount of ink may be added to form a 2-phase-solution so that developing and inking may be accomplished simultaneously.
