921,529. Photolithography. ALGRAPHY Ltd., and R. A. C. ADAMS. June 25, 1959 [July 4, 1958], No. 21506/58. Class 98 (2). A plate " presensitized " with an organic solvent soluble material, exemplified as polyvinyl cinnamate, is treated after imagewise exposure with an emulsion consisting of a water-insoluble solvent containing dissolved colourant as dispersed phase in an aqueous desensitizing solution to develop, desensitize and colour the plate in a single operation. Example I describes treatment of an aluminium plate so sensitized with an emulsion formed by stirring a solvent phase of xylol, butyl alcohol and red dye into an aqueous phase of gum arabic, phosphoric acid and a wetting agent; and in Example II the plate is of zinc for treatment with the respective phases of amyl acetate, tetrachlorethylene and blue dye; and aqueous sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, magnesium nitrate and an aerosol. Numerous further solvents for the purpose are listed, and other sensitizers including cellulose and starch esters, epoxy resins and certain alcohols are indicated briefly.
