Abstract

Turbines.-Turbine blades having profiles varying along the length of the blade are milled by a single cutter rocked relatively to the work during the traverse so that parts of different radii of curvature of the edge of the tool come successively into operation. Fig. 1 shows a cutter for producing a blade with a back of varying curvature, rocking taking place through the angle a about an axis situated at m parallel to the direction of traverse. Fig. 2 shows the resultant blade form. By employing a convex cutter, blades such as are shown in Fig. 4 may be produced. The axis m may be inclined to the direction of traverse, and the inclination may be varied during the traverse. The rocking movement may be combined with a parallel movement as described in Specification 100,134.
