Abstract
1322115 Coating apparatus PONT-A-MOUSSON SA 19 April 1971 [20 Feb 1970] 22073/ 71 Heading B2L Apparatus for coating foundry moulds comprises a reservoir 1 pump 4, coating head 10 and a diaphragm pressure exchanger 5 which is connected on one side of a diaphragm 5a to the pump 4 and coating head 10 and on the other side to a control fluid supply pipe 19. With valves 6, 15 open coating liquid is pumped from vessel 1 into chamber 5b, the pressure produced by spring valves 16, 18 being insufficient to open an outlet valve in the coating head 10 but sufficient to push the control fluid from the chamber 4c since during this operation no air pressure from a pressurised supply is applied to the control fluid. Subsequently, with valves 6, 15 closed and the control fluid pressurised the coating medium is pushed from the pressure exchanger 5 and sufficient pressure is then available to allow the valve in the coating head to be opened. Excess coating medium returns to the reservoir via pipe 14. At this time the pump circulates coating medium, which may be a suspension of silica and bentonite, through pipes 17 and 14a. The mould may be rotated and axially reciprocated and the coating head may be reciprocated. In a modification the control fluid may be acted on directly by a pump. Several coating heads may be used simultaneously using one reservoir and pump and as many pressure exchanges as there are coating heads. The coating head 10 has a valve 12 normally closed by a spring 13. Coating medium enters through a pipe 9 and, depending on the pressure thereof exits either through ports 11 or 14.
