Abstract

1321917 Photo-electric analysis TECHMCON INSTRUMENTS CORP 17 Aug 1971 [28 Aug 1970] 38519/71 Heading G1A [Also in Division G2] Optical apparatus for analysis of a liquid sample stream, e.g. a suspension of particles in a liquid, entrained co-axially by a sheathing stream has a restriction 42 through which the streams pass, and photo-metric means 25, 26 arranged downstream of the restriction. As shown, sheathing liquid is fed in at 31, and the sample stream at 38. The tube after restriction may be flattened Fig. 3, (not shown) Alternatively, the restricted stream may be projected into a gas, e.g. air, between a lightsource and detector Fig. 5, (not shown). The sample and sheathing streams may be horizontally or vertically directed, and inlets 31 may be at other than 90 degrees to the direction of the sample stream. Sheathing liquid may be provided from a constantlevel reservoir, and the sheathed stream pulled through by a vacuum pump Fig. 1, (not shown).
