1321846 Transfer press L SCHULER GmbH 8 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969] 58233/70 Heading B3H A transfer press comprises a series of rams 3 and a series of associated die holders 4 each with a transfer device 7 to move a workpiece to the adjacent table and the transfer devices are moved with the table out of the press for a die changing operation. The transfer devices 7 may be driven by a common shaft 13 connected to the drive-shaft 8 of the rams or have individual shafts driven by each ram and synchronized mechanically or electrically. The shaft 13 extends through the press bed 17 below ground level 12 and has three or two sets of three cams 14-16 to operate the transfer device. The cams operate on plungers 18 in the bed 17 which in turn act on rods 19 in the table to effect vertical and horizontal reciprocation of the device and inward and outward movement of gripper rods 27. The rods 19 are releasably biased to abut the plungers 18 or a lever (29), Fig. 4 (not shown), by springs or by pneumatic or hydraulic piston cylinder units 20, 21. When a table is to be removed from the press the rods 19 are withdrawn by the units to allow the table with its die-set and transfer device to move out on rollers. Each table may have more than one die-set, for example, there may be three die-sets and the transfer device moves the workpieces to successive die-sets before transferring it to the next table.
