Abstract

1321272 Pressurized dispensing containers - valves PITTWAY CORP 20 Oct 1970 [20 Oct 1969] 49732/70 Heading F1R A pressurized dispensing container has a value in which propellant cleans the valve prior and subsequent to product discharge which comprises a valve body 14, covered by a sealing gasket 16, a cleaning and product chamber 20, 22 in respective upper and lower portions thereof for communicating with the propellant and product in the container, there also being a valve stem movable to communicate a discharge orifice 40 with each chamber. The cleaning chamber 20 enclosed between a partitioning gasket 24, an annular spacer 26 and a sealing gasket 16, receives propellant through passageways 28 and gasket and spacer ports 34, 36 which is then discharged through the orifice 40. In another embodiment Fig. 5 for metered flow a cone shaped plug 54 on an adaptor 46 closes off the valve body while ports 56 in the plug allow product flow around the body to the cleaning chamber. In modifications Fig. 6, 7 (not shown) the cleaning chamber is partly enclosed by mounting cup 17, propellant flow thereto being partly through a clearance between the mounting cup and the valve body. Fig. 11 (not shown) shows a co-dispensing valve in which an inner collapsible container (134) may be attached to a dip tube tail 32 there being also a valve stem with two discharge orifices (130, 132) communicable respectively with the cleaning and product chambers. The sealing gasket 16, spacer 26 and partitioning gasket 24 may be integrally moulded from resilient plastics material alternatively only the spacer and one gasket may be integrally moulded, the other gasket being of different material. The container may be inverted to function correctly, the r¶les of the cleaning and product chambers being reversed.
