Abstract

1321215 Centrifuges COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 8 March 1972 [23 March 1971] 10804/72 Heading B2P [Also in Division G1] Gas samples are obtained from an ultracentrifuge comprising a rotating cylindrical bowl 2 closed by end walls 3 which are joined to cylindrical end chambers 8 coaxial with and opening into the bowl 2, the end chambers being of smaller diameter than the bowl 2, through removable tubes 14 mounted in openings 13 equi-spaced round the side walls of the end chambers 8. The thin sheet metal tubes 14 discharge into a stationary diffusor 15 in the support frame 7 of the centrifuge. Each tube 14 is circular at one end, with an external flange 19, and tapers to a flattened end 17 having lugs 20 which retain the tube in its opening 13 during initial assembly of the centrifuge (Fig. 1, not shown). The end wall 3 has an annular bearing surface 5 of a gas bearing 6. Drive shaft 12 is secured to the end chamber 8.
