Abstract

1320955 Joint-making packing; manhole covers E JOOS 6 Oct 1970 [6 Oct 1969] 47485/70 Headings F2B and F2P A seal member of elastic material for sealing a manhole cover 6 to a tank 3 comprises both internal and external grooves for receiving the flat edge portions of the cover and tank plate respectively, one of the grooves 14 having parallel side walls which project the same radial distance while one of the side walls of the other groove projects further than the other which is defined by a displaceable retaining lip 13<SP>1</SP> of wedge-shaped cross-section. The seal member may be cut from a length of material and formed so that the retaining lip 13<SP>1</SP> faces inwardly to engage the cover or outwardly to engage the tank plate. The retaining lip 13<SP>1</SP> may be locked in position by a removable ring 10.
