1320869 Trichloroacrylic acid; acid chlorides PRODUITS CHIMIQUES PECHINEYSAINT-GOBAIN 20 Oct 1971 [21 Oct 1970] 48735/71 Heading C2C Trichloroacrylic acid and alkanoyl chlorides are prepared by heating to 60‹ to 150‹ C. a mixture of hexachloropropene and an alkanoic acid the acid chloride of which has a lower boiling point than trichloroacrylic acid, in a molar ratio of alkanoic acid: hexachloropropene of at least 2 : 1 and in the presence of up to 3% wt. based on the hexachloropropene, of a catalyst, and distilling the alkanoyl chloride from the reaction mixture as it is formed. Catalysts specified are ferric chloride and zinc chloride.
