Abstract
1320237 Workpiece clamping SPENCER FRANKLIN Ltd 1 March 1972 [1 Dec 1970] 57068/70 Heading B3B A work-holding device comprises an elongated body 10 adapted, e.g. by flanges 11, for mounting on a work-bed, said body having a bore 13 in which a clamping arm 14 is slidably mounted and moved by pressure fluid supplied to said bore 13, a bore 18 in the clamping arm 14 communicating at one end with the bore 13 in the body and at the other end with a transverse bore 25 in the outer end of the arm 14, said transverse bore 25 having a workpiece gripping member 26 slidably mounted therein and movable in response to the fluid pressure supplied to the bore 13 in the body 10 to project said gripping member transversely from the clamping arm to grip a workpiece. The member 26 and arm 14 are spring biased into retracted positions, the relative stiffness of the springs ensuring movement of the arm 14 before member 26. Alternatively a restricted orifice 23, or spring biased valve, controls the sequence. Link members inside the tension springs 27, 19 restrict the maximum movement of the arm 14 and member 26.
