955,651. Percussive drills. ATLAS COPCO A.B. March 18, 1963 [March 29, 1962], No. 10637/63. Heading B4C. A guide for a percussive drill steel comprises a pair of arms 19, 20 pivotable on a base 10 so that guiding ends 21 on the arms can be moved between open and closed positions, snap overcentre spring means 38, 39, 41 being provided for maintaining the arms in the open or closed positions. The arms 19, 20 are pivoted on spacer tubes 16 clamped to a base 10 by means of a plate 15 and bolt 13, the base being provided with lugs 11 for attachment to a drilling machine feed bar. The over-centre spring means includes a pair of springs 38 located in bores 37 formed in an extension 35 of the lever 19, the springs co-operating with spherical-shaped plungers 39, 41 engaged in correspondingly shaped recesses formed in an extension 36 of the lever 20; alternatively, the springs and plunger may be replaced by a block of rubber fitted under axial compression. A handle 30, 31 is provided for opening the arms and is connected to a rod 26 pivoted on the arm 20, the handle being retained in the closed position by means of a conical portion 32 thereon being urged by a spring 29 into engagement with conical recesses 34 formed in the arm 19.
