Abstract

1320161 Rolling mills; straightening WEAN UNITED Inc 7 Jan 1971 [12 Jan 1970] 1435/70 Headings B3E and B3M A rolling mill entry guide comprises a lower frame with spaced horizontal rollers 31-33 and intermediate vertical rollers 36, 37 and an upper frame 43 with spaced horizontal rollers 48, 49, 51 which are horizontally offset relative to the rollers 31-33. The off-setting is adjustable and ensures that the strip encircles a portion of each horizontal roller for straightening. The upper frame 43 is adjustable vertically by a pistoncylinder assembly 47. The lower frame has two side parts (18), (19), Fig. 2 (not shown), which support the horizontal rollers 31-33 in bearing blocks 34. The parts are adjustable axially of the rollers on guide rods 22 by two screw and nut drives 28-30 driven by an electric motor 24 to position the vertical rollers with the strip edges. The strip edge is supported on plates 39-42 between the horizontal rollers. Several guides are used with a tandem mill and the upper frames are raised after the leading end of the strip has passed in all the guides except the guide to the first stand.
