Abstract

1320153 Detaining thieves Y BROWN 24 June 1970 [26 June 1969 (2) 11 July 1969 6 Aug 1969 22 Dec 1969 12 Jan 1970] 30558/70 Heading E2X [Also in Divisions Gl G3 and G4] Revolving doors at the entrance of a bank or in airport transit corridors are provided with a metal detector, see Division Gl, for detecting the presence of guns on a person. The door is made of four clockwise rotating panels 10 of bullet proof plastics material, side wall 11A being lengthened and wall 11B shortened so that when the door is locked a person leaving can escape whereas the person entering cannot escape. The coils of the detector pass behind wall 11A, across the top half of the entrance, through spindle 12 and underneath the floor and provide a signal to sound an alarm and lock the door when a gun is detected on a person entering. One or more loundspeakers 15 may be provided to relay a message to the person trapped and shute 14 provided to allow the person trapped to pass out the alarm initiating metal object. The detector coils may be positioned on a wall adjacent swing doors, Fig. 3 (not shown), sliding doors or across a corridor. Fig. 4 shows an airport transit corridor in which people pass from space 30 through corridor 31 and revolving door 34 to passage 31, revolving doors 35 being locked. If a person carrying a gun is detected by the coils arranged across area D the door 34 is locked and door 35 permitted to open so that the person leaves through passageway 36. When the person leaves door 35 is again locked and door 34 opened so that people may continue to board the aircraft with the minimum of delay.
