1319587 Sheet forming BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 16 Oct 1970 [17 Oct 1969] 51051/69 Heading B5A A pattern e.g. a crocodile skin effect, is applied to a thermoplastic sheet, e.g. a microporous polyurethane shoe ramp, by heating the sheet, e.g. with infra-red heaters, placing the sheet over a three dimensional form, e.g. an aluminium last, with a flexible pattern-carrying member in contact therewith, and applying pressure to the sheet and member, e.g. by vacuum and for an air or liquid filled bag. The pattern can be formed by a separate natural or silicone rubber sheet placed between the thermoplastic sheet and a silicone or natural rubber backing sheet, on the side opposite the three dimensional form, or merely placed on the form. The pattern carrying sheet can be heated to the same temperature as the thermoplastic sheet e.g. 100‹-180‹ C.
