Abstract

1319557 Tyre grippers W WIDMER 19 April 1971 [17 June 1970] 22825/71 Heading B8H Apparatus for gripping a tyre 6 which is vertically mounted on a vehicle comprises a support member 1 having support arms 7 on which gripper arms are mounted in bores 18 formed on levers 9, each of the grippers 8 being pressed on to the tyre 6 by the manual rotation of an associated nut 14 engaging a draw bolt 13, which causes rotation of the lever 9 and thus the associated gripper about an axle journal 10. The axle journals 10 may be mounted in the bores 11 as shown or in another bore 11<SP>1</SP> depending upon the diameter of the tyre. The device may be attached at a ring 5 to a mobile crane for lifting or towing of the vehicle. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), both grippers (25) are moved simultaneously towards or away from each other on rotation of a single nut (31) which engages draw bolts (30), (30<SP>11</SP>) having oppositely directed threads, about axle journals 24 removably mounted in holes (27), (27<SP>1</SP>), (271<SP>1</SP>) on support arms (22).
