Abstract

The device for stabilising a trailer which is connected to a motor vehicle by a ball joint coupling consist of a brake disc 3 mounted on the ball neck of the ball joint coupling supporting the coupling ball, and brake blocks 9 and 11 disposed on the tow bar 7 of the trailer and bearing on the brake disc 3 from above and below. The braking force is applied by mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic means 14 and can be adjusted as a function of the travelling speed of the tractor vehicle and/or the total weight of the hauled load. The lower brake block 11 and its associated assembly can be pivoted downwardly by means of lever 21, to facilitate easy disengagement of the device even when the trailer and towing vehicle are at an acute angle with respect to one another. <IMAGE>
