Abstract

1319080 Cathode-ray display tubes OWENSILLINOIS Inc 21 Aug 1970 [8 June 1970] 40312/70 Heading H1D A wide angle television display tube comprising a rectangular faceplate 16, a funnel 11, and a neck 15, is characterized in that the funnel has substantially planar sidewalls 13 at the opposed ends of the short axis, these sidewalls being generally triangular and connecting smoothly with the remaining curved portions of the funnel. Compared with a known profile shown by the chain line in Fig. 2, the flattened shape alters the stress distribution and generally lowers the stresses; in particular, high tensile stresses in the long axis and high compressive stresses in the short axis are reduced by a factor of about 6 near the yoke area 12.
