Abstract
1319008 Glass-metal seals INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 11 Nov 1971 [13 Nov 1970] 52379/71 Heading C1M [Also in Division H1] An electron discharge tube is provided with an output electrode in the form of a semiconductor device 16 sealed over an aperture in one end of the envelope. The device 16 may be an NP diode with a junction 18 between two opposite conductivity type regions 20 and 22 one of which is sealed across an aperture in a nickel cobalt-iron ring 24 which is sealed at 25 to the glass envelope. In sealing N-type electrodes to the ring a nickel-nickel alloy bond may be used, whilst for sealing P-type materials a gold germanium bond may be used. The external portions of the semi-conductor are preferably hermetically sealed by an epoxy resin coating. The semi-conductor may be a transistor and may be bonded to tantalum or tungsten which may in turn be bonded to ceramic tube bodies.
