Abstract
1318786 Ship propulsion DAVID BROWN GEAR INDUSTRIES Ltd 18 May 1971 [19 May 1970] 24131/70 Heading B7V The crank shaft 31 of a diesel engine 30 drives a co-axial propeller shaft through a transmission gearing having a lay shaft 36 which is arranged parallel to, and transversely of, shafts 31, 35. As shown gear 39 is driven from shaft 36 through a pneumatic clutch 41 of the expansible gland type, but in the construction illustrated in Fig. 1, (not shown), gears corresponding with gears 37, 39 are permanently coupled to the lay shaft, and a clutch (13) is incorporated between flexible coupling 32 and first gear 33. A second gear train 42, also meshing with gear 33, drives a generator 43 through a clutch 45 and flexible coupling 46.
