Abstract

1318108 Conveyers VARTA AG 3 Aug 1970 [7 Aug 1969] 37402/70 Heading B8A [Also in Division H1] Apparatus for the formation of accumulator plates comprises a roller conveyer 3 on which formation troughs 2, supported on pallets 1, are moved through a preparation room 100. A formation room 101 is provided with rails 4 on which the pallets 1 stand during the formation period. Fork lift trucks 5 transfer the pallets between the rooms 100, 101. Conveyer 3 comprises acid-resistant steel rollers 31, 32 and includes a pallet-moving chain which has driving members 43, 44 engageable with rubber members 45 for protecting the chain and its guide channels 33 from acid. The conveyer chain is driven by members 8 of a hydrostatically driven chain 9. Trucks 5 have a sub-frame 23 which runs on rails 6 parallel to the conveyer 3 and which is driven by a mechanism 10 supplied by cables 11. An hydraulic unit 24 for driving the truck along rails 22 which form extensions of rails 4 when the trucks are in the positions shown in Fig. 1, includes cooling means 25. An electric control cable 27 is wound on a drum 26. Movement of the frame 23 is controlled by contacts (not shown) along the rails 6 and a switch 29 on the truck is actuated by engagement with the troughs 2. Pallets 1 are of synthetic resin or of wood covered with synthetic resin and the troughs are preferably of hard rubber. The troughs may have plug and socket connections for current supply to the accumulator plates. Acid is pumped out from the formation troughs in the room 100 and transferred to the troughs containing unformed plates after the acid has been checked. In operation, a truck 5 travels along the rails 6 for alignment with a pair of the rails 4, the truck then moving along the rails 22, 4 to pick up a pallet with unformed plates from the converyer 3. The truck, after depositing the pallet in the formation room 101, returns to its starting position. Simultaneously with the transfer of the pallet into the room 101, a pallet with troughs containing formed plates is removed from the room 101 by a truck on other rails 4. The speed of the trucks is controlled to avoid splashing of the acid. The operations are programme-controlled and are checked from a desk 13.
