Abstract

1317782 Magnetic switches CANON K K 17 July 1970 [18 July 1969] 34791/70 Heading H1N A push-button switch forming part of a computer key-board has a magnet portion movable by the push-button key 19 and providing parallel magnetic fluxes M1, M2 opposite in sense and located so that in the unoperated position a sealed magnetic reed contact unit 15 is in the neutral zone between the two flexes and when the push-button is operated the magnets move to a position in which flux M1 predominates to operate the contact unit 15. Resilient pads (23, 30) may cushion the final push-button movement in both directions and a return spring (22) biases the push-button to the inoperative position. The magnet poles may be formed as areas on a single sheet 126, Fig. 6A or two magnets 127, 128 of different widths may be provided so as to reduce the push-button travel. Such switches can be arranged on a keyboard with their magnets facing the same way or alternately in rows and columns (Fig. 7, not shown).
