Abstract

1317667 Cartons JOHN WADDINGTON Ltd 1 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 17082/71 Heading B8P A multi-sided carton of tubular form has its panels twisted to helical form over at least a part of their length. The carton is formed from a blank of stiff board material uncoated or coated with, for example, P.V.C. or of a rigid plastics sheet. Heat sealing may be used with a carton formed of a plastics sheet. The carton may be of constant cross-section or slightly tapered. The ends may be closed by a flap or a separate plug. Panels 12-22 are connected in tubular form by a glue tab 26 and glue strips 12A-22A are folded and secured to panels 12- 22 forming an end reinforcement, which assists in retaining the end plug. The plug may be sealed if the carton contains liquid. If the helix angle is to be constant the crease lines 13-21 between the panels are straight, but if the helix is to be uniformly accelerated the crease lines are as shown in Fig. 2 and at their ends are straight and parallel and normal to the ends of panels 12-22. The blank can be folded round a rotating mandrel, or if of a plastics can be extruded through a rotatable die.
