Abstract
1317494 Electrolytic capacitors PLESSEY CO Ltd 23 Nov 1971 [31 Dec 1970] 61976/70 Heading H1M An electrolytic capacitor comprises a sintered porous anode 1, a liquid electrolyte 4, and an electrochemically inert cathode 3 whose surface in contact with the electrolyte is coated with material 6 comprising at least one platinum metal by thermal decomposition of a ceramic paint. The anode may be tantalum or niobium and the cathode tantalum, niobium, zirconium, hafnium, titanium, aluminium or tungsten coated with a platinum, platinum-iridium, palladium or palladium-gold paint. The cathode may be the capacitor can, or a metal or non- metal casing may have a thin foil of the inert metal on its inner surface, the platinum metal coating having been previously applied to the thin foil. The cathode surface to be coated is preferably first degreased and etched.
