Abstract

1,010,096. Capacitors. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 6, 1961 [Nov. 9, 1960], No. 39632/61. Heading H1M. An electrolytic capacitor comprises an anode on which is an anodized oxide layer, a cathode, and an electrolyte with 0.05 to 2% by weight calculated as metal ion of a dissolved salt of one of the platinum metals, whereby a spongy layer of such platinum metal is deposited as a cathode coating. The anode may be of niobium or tantalum coated with powdered metal, sintered, and electrolytically oxidized or immersed in a suspension of the hydride, heated, and electrolytically oxidized in e.g. NaCl solution. The cathode may be a silver container and the electrolyte may be phosphoric acid containing PtCl 4 or PdCl 4 , or CaCl 2 solution containing hydrochlor-platinic acid.
