Abstract

Electrode comprises a porous sintered base metal, the metal being passivatable, which is coated with a layer of a non-passivatable metal(s) e.g. Pt. Pd, Ir, Ru, Os, Au, Ag. The electrode has increased mechanical strength compared with a solid electrode of the same weight and increased life due to the increased active surface area. The electrode finds use in electrolysis of brine, halides etc, fuel cells, batteries, cathodic protection etc.
