Abstract

1317120 Mining machines LEE-NORSE CO 22 Nov 1971 [30 Dec 1970] 54137/71 Heading E1F In a machine having a rotatable mining head comprising cutter drums 20, 22 on a shaft 26 rotatable in a support 16, a system supplying liquid to discharge means 122, 124, 116 on the periphery of the drums includes a first passage 46, 58, 60, 62, 64, 66 in the support, a second passage 82, 92, 94, 96 in the mining head having a connection 80, to the first passage and connections 118, 120 to the discharge means, and laterally spaced seal rings 84, 86 on opposite sides of the connection 80. A seal ring 88 prevents liquid leaking by the rings 84, 86 from reaching the shaft bearing 28, and the driving gears 32, 36, 40, 42 of the shaft. The cutter drum 22 on the shaft is supplied from the drum 20 by a passage 98, 100, 104. The machine comprises a vertically movable boom and a pair of supports 16 in the form of arms mounted on the boom on opposite sides of the longitudinal centre line of the machine to oscillate laterally towards and away from one another. In a modification cylindrical cutter drums are rotated by a common shaft supported by arms fixed to the boom, the drums having picks mounted on spiral fins which have openings for the discharge of the liquid.
