Abstract

1451016 Feeding sludge CLAUDIUS PETERS AG 25 June 1974 [23 June 1973] 28202/74 Heading B8S Apparatus for feeding sludge to a processing plant such as a fluidized bed furnace 1 comprises a distributor tank 3 with a plurality of apertures 7 in its bottom 8 for feeding sludge to the furnace 1 and a distributor formed in Fig. 1 by a central rotary ring 5 on which scrapers 6 are fixed. During rotary movement of the scrapers 6 the sludge in the tank 3 passes through connecting pipes 9 into the inner chamber of the furnace 1. The apertures 7 may be arranged in one or more spirals, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown). Fig. 4 shows an embodiment wherein the distributor includes alternate scrapers 11 and conical rollers 12 arranged on a rotating frame 10. A rotatable slide plate 13 is between the distributor and the bottom 8 of the tank 3. In a further embodiment, Fig. 10 (not shown), the distributor tank 3 is provided with a heatable jacket (27) or (28) and is closed at the top, gases formed therein being fed through a pipe (29) to the furnace 1. When closed at the top the tank 3 may be pressurized and this aids the feeding of the sludge to the furnace 1. Provision of a rotatable slide plate such as 13 in Fig. 4 provides space between it and the bottom 8 of the tank 3 for air or water to be fed in as a barrier medium, via an inlet (not shown) to reduce wear of the slide plate 13 on the bottom 8.
