Abstract
1,219,238. Centrifugal casting machines. CENTRE DE RECHERCHES DE PONT-AMOUSSON. 9 April, 1969 [19 April, 1968], No. 18083/69. Heading B3F. [Also in Division F2] A centrifugal casting machine has a mould 2, a water-jacket 3 rotatable with the mould, annular fixed parts 7 for supplying and discharging water and seals J<SP>1</SP>-J<SP>4</SP> between the annular fixed parts 7 and the jacket 3, each seal comprising a collar 10 adapted to rotate with the jacket 3, a ring 11 freely mounted on the collar with a slight radial clearance, and means 16 for locking the ring 11 relative to the fixed annular part 7. When the mould 2 and jacket 3 are not rotating, there is no water in the annular space 4 and the ring 11 bears on the collar 10. When water under pressure is admitted through the fixed part 7 to the annular space 4 and the mould 2 and jacket 3 are rotated, water fills the space between the ring 11 and collar 10 which thus form stationary and rotating parts, respectively, of a fluid bearing.
