Abstract

1316954 Welding by pressure DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 26 Aug 1970 [28 Aug 1969] 42866/69 Heading B3R [Also in Division B7] In securing a load supporting disc part and a tyre supporting rim part of a vehicle wheel together a separately formed pin is arranged in an aperture in the disc part and its end is welded to the rim part. The load supporting light alloy disc 1 of a vehicle wheel is provided with circumferentially spaced holes 8 into which headed steel pins 9 are inserted with their part spherical ends in contact with a steel rim part 2. The pins are resistance welded to the rim part 2 to trap the disc part 1 under the heads of the pins. The cylindrical surfaces of the pins are coated with insulating paint. The disc may be secured to rim parts of different shapes and headless pins may be used on rigid parts or heads may be formed on pins during welding.
