1316897 Stopping and starting machinery MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI DESSAU VEB 27 July 1971 35217/71 Headings F2L and F2Q [Also in Division H2] In a drive system for driving electrical generators 6 from a ship's engine driven propeller shaft 1 wherein a planet carrier 2 is driven by a gear 16 fast with the propeller shaft 1 and carries planet pinions 15 which mesh sun gears 3 fast with the generators 6 and ring gears 4 that aro held by brakes 5 to effect drive through the planet train, the brake mechanism 5 is connected by a rod 10 to a piston 9 which moves axially to rotate the brake mechanism 5 and ring gear 4 and thus adjust the phase of the associated generator output. The piston 9 slides in a cylinder 8 which is continuously supplied with pressure liquid by a pump 12. The exhaust from the cylinder 8 passes through a cylinder 14 fast with the piston 9 and is controlled by a valve 13. A reversible electric motor 19 moves the valve element 13 axially to increase or decrease the throttling of the exhaust from the chamber 8. The subsequent increase or decrease of the pressure in the chamber 8 causes the piston 9 to follow the motion of the valve element 13.
