Abstract

1316763 Standby supply systems LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-GmbH 9 July 1970 [11 July 1969] 33392/70 Heading H2H An arrangement for ensuring that the voltage supplied to a load 3 remains substantially constant comprises generators 1, 2 adapted to operate in parallel, each generator being connected to a respective energy store El, E2, a contactor S1, S2 and a common output 9, a standby power supply N and a synchronizing device 5 for maintaining the generators in synchronism with the standby power supply. The device 5 synchronizes the generators and the supply N via a control unit 4. The generators comprise single or three phase static inverters including thyristors or transistors and supply signals on lines a 1 , a 2 to a central monitoring unit 6. If, for example, the inverter 1 should fail or develop an over or under voltage at its input or output, a signal on line a 1 causes the unit 6 to supply a signal on line c which closes an electronic switch 8 thereby connecting the standby power supply N to the load. The unit 6 also supplies signals on lines d 1 and e 2 to open the contactor S 1 and adjust the output of the inverter 2 respectively. The unit 6 then supplies a further signal on the line c to open the switch 8. If the inverter 2 also fails the unit 6 sends a signal on line d 2 to open the contactor S 2 and a signal on the line c to close the switch 8 so that the load is supplied exclusively by the supply N. In the arrangement shown a pair of switches 8 and 8<SP>1</SP> are provided so that if the inverter 1 or 2 fails the respective switch 8<SP>1</SP> or 8 is closed to connect the load to the supply N. If a monitor 5<SP>1</SP> has caused a contactor S N to open and a fault has developed in the inverter 1 or 2, the monitor unit 6<SP>1</SP> or 6 omits a signal on lines d or d 2 to close an emergency contactor S<SP>1</SP> 8 or S 8 thereby connecting the supply N to the load.
