Abstract

1,146,220. Standby supply systems. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 25 Oct., 1967 [28 Oct., 1966], No. 48471/67. Heading H2H. An A.C. load 6 can be supplied alternatively from mains 1, 2 or a battery fed inverter output 31, 32 through interlocked electronic switch means 7, 8 dependent on whether the mains voltage is above or below a determined value. On mains failure, a pulse generator 11 is blocked by a voltage sensing device 10 via a NOR circuit 24 and a time delay circuit 23 is energized. After a half cycle delay to allow for the transition time, a pulse generator is energized firing thyristors 8. On restoration of the supply thyristors 8 are blocked and after a half cycle interval pulse generator 11 is energized firing thyristors 7. The time delays may be reduced if gate turn off thyristors with appropriate circuitry are employed. The pulse generators may be multivibrators. Circuits 19, 20 supply power alternatively to the control circuits. Device 10 may also provide a further time delay of say 1 sec. to allow on restoration of the supply mains transients to subside before switching over. The system may be adapted for multiphase operation.
