Abstract

1,151,457. Converting. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. 11 Sept., 1967 [13 Sept., 1966], No. 41318/67. Heading H2F. A safety device for an inverter supplying an asynchronous motor comprises means 11, responsive to excessive current through smoothing capacitor 5, arranged to simultaneously trigger a number of controlled rectifiers connected in parallel across the D.C. line. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, an A.C.-D.C.-A.C. converter comprises a three-phase bridge inverter 6, 7, 8. An excess current through capacitor 5 triggers circuit 11 to open switch 31 and to provide a trigger pulse for unit 9, Fig. 4, which comprises a monostable circuit 13 and a number of OR gates 14 . . . 19. The output from each OR gate is fed to one of the inverter main rectifiers, e.g. 20, 21, 22, 23 of phase 6 so that switching circuit 13 will fire all rectifiers thus preventing excessive current flowing through any one of them. Auxiliary rectifiers may be fired instead of or in addition to the main ones, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown).
