Abstract

1316685 Paper-making apparatus J W I Ltd 19 April 1971 [10 March 1970] 23463/71 Heading D2A A drainage foil for engaging a wire of a paper-making machine has a wire support surface 16, a suction surface 18 inclined to the surface 16 and a channel 24 having disposed therein wear-resistant inserts 30 clamped together in abutting relationship by an elongated clamping member. The foil body is formed of high density, high molecular weight polyethylene and the channel 24 has dovetailed grooves 22 engaged by side parts of the inserts. The clamping member is a rod extending beneath the inserts and engaging abutment members at the ends of the row of elements, the rod being in screw-threaded engagement with one of the abutment members whereby turning the rod clamps the inserts between the abutment members In a second embodiment, the inserts are secured by an adhesive to a plate which forms the clamping member, the inserts or the plate being prestressed to provide the clamping force. The inserts may be secured together by adhesive. In a third embodiment, Figs. 12 to 14 (not shown), the inserts are circular.
