Abstract

1,084,909. Drainage foils. JOHNSON WIRE WORKS Ltd. Dec. 17, 1964 [May 15, 1964], No. 51437/64. Heading D2A. A drainage foil for a Fourdrinear papermaking machine has its upper surface formed by a wire bearing portion 71 and by a suction creating portion 72 inclined to portion 71, and is mounted on a rail 60 extending into a recess in the lower portion of the foil. The rail has side projections 63, 64 which may be formed by plates 61, 62 or may be formed integrally with the rail, while the foil has flanges extending under the projections. A spring 65 with curved portions 66, 67, or leaf springs 53, 54 Figs. 7-9 (not shown) may be used to urge the foil in the counterclockwise direction. The foil may be made of nylon, nylatron, polyurethane, a ceramic, laminated phenolics, polyethylene, bronze, or steel, or combinations thereof. The foil may have a rigid plastics-e.g. a melamine-formaldehyde resin - or metal base with a cap of a tough flexible plastic. Details of the support for a number of spaced rails are given, -Figures 1 - 5 (not shown).
