Abstract

1316444 Roofing material JENS VILLADSENS FABRIKER AS 15 April 1970 [16 April 1969] 18007/70 Heading B2E A flexible roof covering material having a granular surface comprises at least one layer of a thermoplastics material wherein the granular surface is formed by granules comprising a thermoplastics material which is miscible with the said layer and fused thereto, the granules being so disposed over the surface of the layer so that water is readily drained between them. The granules and layer are preferably of the same composition, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or polyvinyl alcohol. The granules may be alike or different with sizes between 0.3 and 4.0 mm and may be of flat or slaty form. The thermoplastic layer may be a self supporting foil or may be attached to carrier, e.g. asbestos paper impregnated with synthetic rubber or be reinforced with a woven or non- woven fibres, e.g. glass. In the Examples (1) PVC paste is sprayed onto an endless steel belt, a glass mat is laid on the paste which is then gelled at 180‹C, PVC paste is spread thereon and while still soft, PVC granules are dropped onto the surface before final gelling: (2) PVC paste is spread onto an asbestos felt (80% asbestos, 20% butadiene/styrene rubber) and granules of softened PVC are applied followed by gelling, (3) PVC paste is spread onto a glass tissue, gelled at 190%C and cooled and a further coating of paste is applied and granules are dropped into it before gelling at 200‹C, (4) bitumen impregnated asbestos paper is coated with a polyvinyl chloride-polyvinyl alcohol dispersion heated to 90‹C and then cooled, this material then being coated as in Example (2). The PVC pastes may contain pigments, e.g. lamp black, stabilisers and plasticisers and the granules may be coloured.
