Abstract
1315822 Perlite fire extinguishant UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 11 May 1970 [14 May 1969 16 Sept 1969] 38215/72 and 38216/72 Divided out of 1315821 Addition to 1205136 Heading A5A A dry powder fire extinguishant comprises the unexpanded or partially expanded perlite of Specification 1205136 and a solid, non- hygroscopic, non-toxic additive to assist in retaining the powder on a burning surface. The perlite is expanded by fire to a solid foam. The additive may be a cellulose derivative, resin or wax of MPt below 250‹C, an ammonium, potassium or sodium phosphate, mercury thiocyanate, or microcosmic salt (sodium ammonium hydrogen phosphate) or a mixture thereof, in an amount up to 25% by wt. of the extinguishant. In addition 1-2% hydrophobic silica or 1 % magnesium stearate as or anti-caking agent, and 1-5% magnesium carbonate as lubricant may be present.
