Abstract

1435200 Fire fighting foam IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 May 1974 [21 June 1973] 29448/73 Heading A5A A method of fire fighting comprises applying to a fire a foam produced from a composition comprising an aqueous, fluorine-free foaming agent and a thickening agent, the composition having a highly thixotropic character (defined). The composition may in addition contain a surface active agent containing a terminal fluorocarbon group of at least three C atoms. The thickening agent is preferably a copolymer of acrylic acid and ethyl acrylate. Antifreeze e.g. glycols or mono or tri hydric alcohols and foam extenders e.g. S or O alkyl substituted oxyacids of sulphur may also be present.
