Abstract

1,205,136. Perlite foam fire extinguishers. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 19 Aug., 1969 [27 Aug., 1968], No. 40985/68. Heading A5A. The charge for a dry powder fire extinguisher comprises ground unexpanded or partially expanded perlite. The perlite is expanded by fire to a solid foam. Unexpanded perlite of 100-300 mesh (B.S.S.) or perlite expanded to a density not less than 251b/cu. ft. is preferred. The compressed gas propellant for the extinguisher may be CO 2 or argon, the latter being suitable for fires of reactive metal, e.g. Zr.
