Abstract

1315516 Laminated liner MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 15 Oet 1970 [16 Oct 1969] 49123/70 Heading B5N A laminated tab-providing liner 10 which is used to temporarily protect the adhesive surface 16 of a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape 17 comprises a first layer of a flexible material 14 adapted to overlie and be removably attached to said adhesive surface and a second layer 15 comprising at least one strip of a flexible material overlying the first layer, a portion only of said second layer being fixedly bonded to the first layer, whereby the unbonded portion of the second layer may be partially separated from the first layer to form a gripping tab 19 to facilitate removal of the liner when the tape and the liner are simultaneously cut. The layers are preferably films of polyethylene which are intermittently bonded, e.g. by heat sealing along the length of the liner. The intermittent bonds may be lines 18 extending across the width of the liner at angles of 0 to 90 degrees (preferably 45 degrees) to the length of the liner or in spaced apart dots along the length of the liner. Other suitable liner materials are paper, metal foils and thermoplastic films. The invention is particularly suitable for lining rigid polyvinyl chloride labelling tapes which are to be embossed.
