Abstract

1315320 Shredding apparatus Z BRIERLEY 23 Sept 1971 [12 Sept 1970] 43704/70 Heading B2A A document shredding apparatus comprises a pair of complementary left hand and right hand square-threaded cutting screws 19, 20, Fig. 2, arranged parallel and in mesh with each other in a casing 10. The screws are coupled by gearing and driven either by operation of a handle 26, Fig. 1, which may be connected at either side of the casing, or by an electric motor. The screws each comprise a shaft 22 around which is a square-sectioned helical spring-like component 23 secured to the shaft by counter-sunk screws. Springs 28, 29, Fig. 3. are secured on the screws to strip shredded paper form and prevent jamming of the cutting screws. The housing 10 includes a channel member 31 permitting the shredder to be clamped on a table or deck. Flanges 33, 34 permit placement of the upper rigid surround of a receptacle to receive shredded material.
