Abstract

1,022,409. Shredding apparatus. A. P. DURAND. May 4, 1964 [May 4, 1963], No. 18501/64. Heading B2A. Apparatus for destroying documents by shredding them into strips comprises a frame in which are rotatable shafts f, f 1 , carrying unmachined spring steel knives g, separated by washers h. The frame comprises two U-shaped members a, a 1 , Fig. 4 (not shown), connected by struts b, b 1 and housings c, c 1 . The washers are of an injection-moulded plastics material. The strips are freed from the knives by guides p mounted on the struts. The strips are impeded in their exit from the knives by means of a spring-urged flap q so that the strips issue from the apparatus in zig-zag form so that they can be used as packing material. The shafts f, f 1 are driven from a motor m, Fig. 4 (not shown), through reduction gearing. When a document drops between the housings c, c 1 it tilts the lever o of a microswitch to start the motor.
