1315173 Thawing frozen food H SCHMIDT [trading as JOSEF NEUBERGER FABRIK ELEKTRISCHER GERATE INH H SCHMIDT KG] 19 April 1971 [5 Aug 1970] 37896/ 70 Heading A2D An apparatus for thawing food including a thawing chamber and an arrangement for heating and circulating air through the chamber, comprises a circulating fan having an axial input from the interior of the chamber and a radial output, one or more heating elements forming part of a jacket surrounding the fan for heating the output from the fan, and air supply channels disposed at the sides of the chamber for receiving and supplying the heated air to the chamber. Plate members carried on the walls of the chamber may be used to define air supply channels, and these plates may be provided with openings in which may be fitted vortex plates to give turbulence to the flow of heated air. A suitable apparatus is shown in Fig. 2 wherein within the housing 1, there is positioned at one end of a chamber, a fan 6. Surrounding the periphery of the fan is a heating arrangement 18 in the form of a single spirally wound heating coil, or several individual circular heating elements. The plates 3, 3' define air supply channels, and within the openings 19 are vortex plates 20.
