Abstract

1314734 Coiling; soldering G CAMARDELLA 27 April 1970 [26 April 1969] 20153/70 Headings B3E and B3R In a method of fixing the ends of electric coils wound in apparatus having an indexing turret, a coil is wound on a support 4 in the winding station, the support is indexed to a further station without cutting the wire 6, a loop is formed in the wire 6, which is given a rotary movement so that a part of it is wound around lugs 2a, 2b on the supports in the winding and further stations. The loop in the wire is formed between pulleys 15a, 15b by a pulley 15 driven downwardly by a pneumatic cylinder (14), Fig. 4 (not shown). Hooks 8 of gripping means 7, 7a are then raised by pneumatic cylinders 10 to hold the wire 6 and cranks 11 are rotated to wind it around the lugs. As the hooks 8 are withdrawn after winding, the wire 6 is broken. The supports are rotated by a motor in engagement with gears 16, 17, to dip the wound lugs into a tin bath (18) after immersion in activating agent, e.g. colophony, Figs, 5a, 5b (not shown). The lugs may then be bent by a punch (20), Fig. 6 (not shown), to slacken the coil ends, which may have tightened during soldering. In alternative embodiments, a single gripping means may be used to wind the wire around the lugs and the spools may have more than two lugs where the coils are formed of more than one winding or have intermediate taps.
