Abstract
131,461. Stott, N. Aug. 24, 1918. Wire and cores, covering by winding. - Relates (1) to an arrangement of variable-speed friction drive for the haul-off pulley or drum and (2) to an arrangement of inverted covering-head, in machines having two or more heads, whereby the one or more inverted heads can be driven by the same gear as the complementary upright heads. (1) The covering-heads a, b, Fig. 1, and the haul-off pulley c are all driven from a shaft d, which is driven by a friction wheel g through a friction disk h splined on the shaft. The pulley c is driven from the shaft d through a friction wheel 10 on the shaft and a friction disk 11 on one end of a shaft 12. the other end of which is provided with a worm 13 engaging a worm-wheel 14 on the pulley shaft 15. The friction wheel 10 is splined on the shaft d, and is adjustable transversely of the face of the friction disk 11 by means of a screw plug 20 and a rod located coaxially with the friction wheel 10 in a bore in the shaft d, against and under the action of a spring tending to force the friction wheel towards the periphery of the friction disk. (2) The spindie z<1>, Figs. 1 and 4, of the inverted covering- head b is formed with or carried by a stirrup 3 or equivalent member on a boss u<1>, which is provided with a pinion x<1> gearing with the same toothed wheel on the shaft d as the pinion on the boss of the corresponding upright head a. The bosses of the heads are mounted on fixed tubular spindles v<1> carried by plugs w<1> removably secured in the casing q. Yarn guiding and tensioning devices, such as the flyers 6, 6<a> described in Specification 131,462, are provided.
