Abstract

1314561 Laminates MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 3 April 1970 [4 April 1969] 15910/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Laminates are prepared from graphite fibre sheets impregnated with epoxy resin cured by means of a sulphonic acid salt (R<SP>f</SP>SO 3 ) n M in which Rf is a perfluoroalkyl group, M is an ammonium cation, a quaternary ammonium or amine cation or a metal cation of Groups I-V, VII, VIb or VIIb of the Periodic Table, or a lanthanide or actinide metal; n is the valency of M. In an example a mixture of glycidyl ether and cycloaliphatic epoxy resins is used to impregnate a graphite fibre mat composed of unidirectional length. A 12-ply assembly was cured, using CF 3 SO 3 Ag, for 8 minutes at 177‹ C./14 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> followed by a post cure of 4 hours/177‹ C.
