Abstract
1487609 Epoxy resins CIBA-GEIGY AG 2 Dec 1974 [3 Dec 1973] 52111/74 Heading C3B [Also in Division C2] An advancement resin is obtained by reacting n moles of a compound of the Formulµ I or II in which R is halogen, methyl or ethyl and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> independently denote H, halogen' methyl or ethyl with n + 1 mols of a diepoxide, n being a positive integer. In an example 2 mols of the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A is reacted with one mol of a compound of Formula (IV) to form a glassy product having an epoxide content of about 1À6 and the product is mixed with a liquid resin based on epichlorohydrin and bisphenol A and the mixture cured with p,p<SP>1</SP>- diaminodiphenyl methane to give a flameretardant product. The compounds of Formulae I and II may themselves be added to epoxide resins and the mixtures cured to give flame-retarded resins or can be reacted with an epihalohydrin to give their diglycidyl ethers which can then be cured with a customary curing agent, optionally in the presence of other polyepoxides.
